1. What are your favorite three things at Peccadilly.com right now?
The Marlene light grey mini check cotton knitted throw blanket is an absolute staple. I would throw this over the edge of the couch, or the arm of a side chair or even to the edge of my bed, just to add an additional layering element to the room. And of course it can be used to cuddle up with when watching tv with family or reading a book.
Another way to utilize a throw blanket during the holidays is to have it double as a Christmas tree skirt. Sometimes I cannot find a Christmas tree skirt that compliments my tree/décor, so I just wrap a throw blanket around the bottom of the tree and usually get a lot of compliments on my “Tree Skirt” =).
The Small Amethyst Pendant by Zuo Modern would be perfect hanging in an entry way or even in a kitchen. I would love to see 3 of these beautiful lights all lined up over the island or even over the sink. These could even be placed over the nightstands in a bedroom, one on each side to add a surprising modern element.
2. What inspired you to start Monica Marie Design?
When my husband and I bought our first home about five years ago, I fell deeply in love with decorating our home. I would find myself decorating and redecorating our home, at every chance I had. If I had a few moments before work, I would rearrange our coffee table, or create a tablescape on our dining room table. I would wake up (I still do actually LOL) in the morning thinking about ways to decorate different areas of our home. I began to post my progress shots on Instagram and as people began to see my images, they would ask things like “oh that’s nice, where did you get that”, or “where did you get the idea to do that?” So with that being said, I decided to start a blog to share my home and my décor inspiration with others, to hopefully inspire them too!
3. What do you love most about design?
My favorite thing about design is that nothing is permanent. You can always make changes! That is one thing I always try to encourage my followers with. Many people think when they make a design choice that they will be “stuck” with it. There are always ways to incorporate new design features, you can paint, rearrange, reorganize (return!) and get a totally new feel!
4. What’s your favorite room in your home?
My favorite room in our home has to be my master bedroom. We did a stencil on the back wall, as a feature point, which I think adds a lot of character. I was sure to do the bedroom in neutral tones, so when we end our day and head to bed, the room feels like our very own retreat that has a very comfy/cozy feeling yet creates a glamorous aspect with all of the textures and pattern play.
5. What is your favorite season to decorate for?
My all-time favorite season to decorate for is Christmas. I LOVE all of the twinkling lights, the mini trees to display all around the house, the stockings, but decorating the Christmas tree has to be my absolute favorite!
6. What three trends are you loving in the fashion world right now?
I think fashion bleeds into décor for me so I would say a few trends I am loving in Fashion are Less is More, Neutrals, and one that is strictly fashion but I am loving is sweater dresses!
7. Who is your style icon?
My style icon is Megan Markle, I think she keeps things sleek and simple while still looking glamorous.
8. What’s the best style advice you’ve ever received?
It’s not about having everything, but having a few staple pieces that you can mix and match to create several different looks.
9. What’s on the top of your holiday wish list?
This year for me it’s mostly electronics, I would have to say a new camera or a new laptop!
