Peccadilly & 2017 Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in women. According to the American Cancer Society, in 2017 there will 252,710 new cases of breast cancer and 40,610 breast cancer deaths in the United States alone. In 2012, more than 1.7 million new cases of breast cancer occurred worldwide. According to the National Cancer Institute, women in the United States have a 1 in 8 chance of developing breast cancer within their lifetimes. With numbers like that, it’s likely that you already know someone whose life has been affected by breast cancer.

Breast cancer can occur in women and men of all ages and ethnicities. Lifestyle, reproduction, genetic, and environmental factors can all lead to an increase of breast cancer risk. Improved treatment and early detection has decreased the breast cancer mortality rate 38% since 1989. However, there’s still a lot of work to be done.

Susan G. Komen has emerged as one of the leading voices in breast cancer awareness, research, and aid. The non-profit organization supports victims and survivors of breast cancer and their families, while also funding groundbreaking research in the search to cure breast cancer.

What You Can Do

It’s important to be screened regularly to catch breast cancer at its earliest stage. To decrease your own risk of breast cancer, experts recommend the following:

  • Regular exercise
  • Limiting alcohol to less than one drink per day for women and two drinks per day for men
  • Eating a healthy diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables

In honor of breast cancer awareness month, we are donating net proceeds of all sales from our special Breast Cancer Awareness collection to Susan G. Komen or another charity of your choice. This handpicked collection features curated items that are pink in spirit. Customers who spend $100 or more will receive a free complimentary gift of Komen merchandise. Build awareness with us by treating yourself and supporting a great cause.
